Season Game #: 3 / Current Record: 2 - 1
WAHOO: 12 ... 16 ... 6 ... 14 .... 48
Norris: 17 ... 16 ... 12 ... 18 .... 63
The Warriors travelled to Norris to play their third game in six days against a quality opponent. The Titans were preseason ranked #1 (OWH) in Class B. and had only lost to Class A #7 ranked Bellevue West, 73 – 76. Wahoo succumbed to Norris’s pressure defense and lost their first game of the young season, 48 – 63. Coach O’Connor stated: “They (Norris) are very talented and really stress you on both ends of the floor.”
The Titans forced 16 Wahoo turnovers, often thwarting Warrior efforts to overcome Norris’s leads. A Kip Brigham drive and dish to Eli Shada produced the first two points of the game, but that would be the only lead for the Warriors.
Landon Glock was the bright spot for the Warriors as the sophomore led the team in scoring with 15, connecting on 4 of 5 three-pointers and converting 3 of 3 free throws. Glock was especially key in the second quarter as he kept Wahoo in the game. Glock cut the Norris lead to 23-19 with a three at the 5:12 mark. With 4:02 to go in the half, Glock was fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three free throws to cut the Norris lead again at 25-22. And with :38 to go, Glock’s deep 3 again cut the Norris lead to three. Two Norris free throws with 5 seconds to go made Norris’ halftime lead 33-28.
Wahoo’s fate was sealed in the third period when the Titans went on an 8-0 run at the end of the quarter. Norris converted 6 of 6 free throws and Greyson Addison scored a jumper to give Norris a 45-34 lead.
Efforts by the Warriors to catch up in the fourth period were thwarted by turnovers. With 4:29 to go, Chris Garner converted a Wahoo turnover to a three pointer and another Wahoo error resulted in a Norris basket and a 56 - 43 lead that Wahoo couldn't catch. Coach O’Connor commented, “The story of the game was our 16 turnovers to their 2 .”
Norris junior, Chris Garner, led all scorers with 29 points. Garner successfully drove through the Wahoo defense to score and went 3 of 4 on three’s. Brigham (10) and Jase Kaminski (12) joined Glock in double figures for the Warriors. Wahoo continued their season rebounding success, outrebounding the opponent for a third straight game (31 – 26 against Norris).
