Wahoo vs Seward

Wahoo’s efforts on the defensive end earned the Warriors the Wahoo Holiday Tournament championship with a 60-32 win over Seward. Wahoo held Seward to 9 of 42 shooting (21.4%). Coach T.J. O’Connor commented, “Our defense set the tone … we held their best scorer to 0 points.” Bostyn Happ had been averaging 17 points per game for the Blue Jays, but was held to 0 of 9 shooting.

The Warriors never trailed in the game. Eli Shada provided the early offensive punch as he poured in 9 points in the first quarter. His 2 free throws at the end of the quarter put Wahoo ahead 17-6. Seward only managed to connect on 2 of 9 field goals.
The Warriors increased their lead in the second period as Landon Glock sank two three’s. Wahoo had built a 19 point lead when Seward’s Layne Luebbe hit a jumpshot at the buzzer to make the half-time score 33 – 16.

The third quarter was more of the same. As time ran out in the quarter, Griffin Hancock drove to the basket and found Joey Kelly for the basket that put Wahoo ahead 46 – 22. The bench players continued to make their mark in the fourth quarter as Quincy Gingstad put the finishing touches on the win, scoring the final basket on an assist from Jackson Kemerling.

Cody Hesser again led the Warriors in scoring, finishing with 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the field and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. Shada had his best outing of the season, contributing 15 points. Joey Kelly had 6 off the bench. Wahoo improved their record to 5 – 3 while Seward dropped to 2 – 6.
