"Party Doll" by Buddy Knox
"Every man has got to have a party doll"

When Buddy Knox asked his “Party Doll” to “run her fingers through my hair” he became the first artist of the Elvis Era to write and record a number one song (not including Elvis’s questionable credits). “Party Doll” went to #1 on March 30th, 1957. Knox had actually written the song in 1948, but the record was made in 1957 at Norman Petty’s studio in Clovis, New Mexico. The recording began getting attention when played extensively by a D.J. in Amarillo and Knox was eventually signed by Roulette records in New York. The song has a classic “rockabilly “ sound from the driving beat to the guitar riff. Steve Lawrence’s pop version would reach #5.
