In the 1950's Cashbox Magazine was the main competitor with Billboard for the music trade. In 1956 the rankings expanded to a top 50 and then to a top 75 in 1957 and became a top 100 in 1958. Publicaton of the magazine ended in 1996 |

"Tammy and the Bachelor" did not do real well on its first release. But when Debbie Reynold's song lifted from the sound track - "Tammy" - went to #1 in the summer of 1957 the movie was re released and became a box office smash that spawned several sequels. Cashbox chose it as #1 for 1957. |

Paul Anka was one of the few "teen idols" to write his own material. He wrote "Diana" when he was 15 as a love poem to the older baby sitter of his younger brother and sister. Cashbox ranked it #13 for the year. |

The Rays qualify as "one hit wonders" as their recording of Bob Crewes "Silhouettes" reached #3 in the fall of 1957 but the group failed to reach the top 40 again. "Silhouettes" was ranked #19 by Cashbox. |
