LeGrande records was a Norfolk record company established by Frank Guida. He developed a Mardi Gras type of sound with a house band called the "Church Street Five." Gary (U.S.) Bonds had his first hit for the label with "New Orleans" in 1960.
Atlantic records had reorganized The Drifters in 1959. In 1960 it had a #1 for the label, "Save the Last Dance For Me." It was the only #1 for the group that had 11 top twenty records.
Marv Johnson was actually recorded by Berry Gordy at Mowtown, but the songs were leased to United Artists. "I Love the Way You Love" was the highest rated of his three top twenty hits in 1960.
Roy Orbison left Sun records in 1960 and found instant success with his new Monument label, taking "Only the Lonely" to the top of the Billboard chart.
Rita records just missed the top twenty with Harold Dorman's Mountain of Love. Johnny Rivers would reach the top ten (#9) when he recorded the song in 1964.
Mississippi based Ace records had its only top twenty hit in 1960 with Jimmy Clanton's "Go Jimmy Go."
Warner Brothers got its start in the music business by spinning records off of its television series. Connie Stevens played Cricket on "Hawaiian Eye." She had been in the top ten the previous year when she pleaded with Ed Byrnes to "lend me your comb" on "Kookie, Kookie."
