When the final top ten was posted at the end of the season, Wahoo would be the top team in Class B in scoring, averaging 88.3 points. And that would be a new school record. The Warriors would have the image of a run and gun high scoring machine. And some would conclude that Wahoo was all about offense. But those that actually saw them play would usually comment first on the defense.
The 1990 Warriors, as did its predecessors, used their defensive prowess to give them an offensive boost. While the Warriors did shoot well, a lot of their high percentage field goal shooting was due to fast break opportunities. And it wasnt just the guards that got in on the act. With Randy Hoffman and Jason Glock getting out on the break from their wing positions, the post players ran the court well. As Coach Anderson put it following Wahoos win over Raymond Central in the holiday tournament, Our defense makes our offense. We depend an awful lot on our defense to get points. Thats a big part of our game.
The Wahoo defense produced nearly 15 steals per game and forced opponents into nearly 23 turnovers per game. The Warriors also dominated the boards, averaging 44 to the opponents 22. The defensive rebounds and steals often led to fast break points.
After noting the offensive production, when looking in the defense column of the top ten teams in Class B, it would be discovered that Wahoos 45.8 was also the best.
