Wahoo played in its tenth consecutive Capitol Conference Tournament championship game and claimed its seventh consecutive title by defeating Ashland. But it wasn’t easy. The 83 - 74 final score was the second closest game of the season for Wahoo. The Class C1 number one ranked Warriors knew they would get a battle from the fourth ranked Blue Jays and Ashland didn’t disappoint as they took a first quarter 23 - 19 lead. Then, with Wahoo trailing 39 - 38 late in the second period, Mike Simons and Eric Eddie hit back to back three’s and Wahoo took a lead they would not relinquish. Wahoo came out strong in the third period, outscoring the Blue Jays 14 - 4. The Warriors seemed to have the game well in hand with a 78 - 58 lead in the fourth quarter, but Mike Simons fouled out with just under two minutes left. Ashland seized the opportunity and went on a 14 - 2 run that put the outcome in doubt. But Wahoo hung on with a late basket by Josh Hermann and a Josh Anderson freethrow. Simons scored 30 for the Warriors, while Anderson put in 21 and Eddie connected on five treys for 15 points.
