Wahoo won its ninth consecutive Capitol Conference Tournament with a 55 - 48 win over Raymond Central. The Mustangs looked like they could repeat their earlier win over Wahoo as they jumped off to a 7-1 lead. But Andy Dokulil stepped up and hit three treys. Wahoo’s leading scorer, Ryan Gerdts, got off to a slow start, converting on only one of his first four shots. But the junior forward scored the final four points of the first quarter to give the Warriors a 18 - 15 lead. The Mustangs tied the game at the half with JIm Sullivan scoring 12 points, nearly half of the team’s total. Wahoo went to a diamond & one defense the second half and held Sullivan to only five more points on only four shot attempts. The lead changed hands five times in the third quarter and Wahoo only led by one as the teams entered the final stanza. Gerdts scored four straight points to give Wahoo a 47-42 advantage and they never relinquished the lead. With possession of the ball, a 49-43 point lead, and a three minutes to go, Wahoo held the ball for nearly two minutes before Raymond Central fouled. Watton said, “At that point, I told our kids to run some clock and protect the ball because I knew they’d have to come out and foul us.” Jaron Bromm scored 7 points in the fourth quarter as Wahoo claimed the title. Ryan Gerdts led the Wahoo scoring with 23 points and Bromm had 12. The Warriors made ten steals and forced 19 Mustang turnovers.
