The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Arlington Eagles 77-48 in Capitol Conference action on Friday night. The game was close for the first quarter and a half.  The Eagles led 13-11 after one quarter. Arlington still led 20-19 after a Trevor Koger field goal.  The Warriors then went on a 14-0 run. Casey Brown started the run with a field goal to take a 21-20 lead. Brook Stuart then hit two free throws, followed by a Jon Abbott field goal. A Tyler Kavan lay up, a Josh Langemeier steal and lay up, followed by a 4 point play from Casey Brown with 5 seconds left put Wahoo up 33-20.  Two Eagle free throws with 1 second left cut the lead to 33-22 at halftime. The Warriors went on a 11-0 to start the third quarter to break the game wide open and take a 44-22 lead.  Brook Stuart’s jumper, Ben Scheef’s 3 point play, Casey Brown’s trey, and Tyler Kavan’s free throw put the Warriors up by 22.

Wahoo would outscore the Eagles 29-9 in the third quarter to take a 63-31 lead after three quarters, before going on to the 77-48 win. The Warriors played without leading scorer Max Cook, who came down with a case of mono, and is out indefinitely. Senior Casey Brown led the Warriors with 22 points on 8-13 shooting from the field, with 17 of those points coming in the first half.  Mitch Shukis had 12 points off the bench on 5-5 shooting from the field, with 5 boards.  Tyler Kavan had 10 points with 4 steals. Ben Scheef added 9 points.  Quinn McGill had 5 assists and 3 steals in his first varsity game with the Warriors.

Coach Scheef: “We found out we would not have Max about 5 minutes before our bus left. The kids did a terrific job of stepping up and getting the job done without Max.  Casey Brown had a great night for us.  His shooting in the first half, gave us the chance to open up the lead and get a little separation from them.  Mitch Shukis played a great game for us and gave us some great minutes after Ben Scheef got in foul trouble early. Tyler Kavan gave a great effort again, and Quinn McGill played very well in his first game for us. Defensively we really got after them, and the fact that we turned them over 32 times in the game was huge.”

Wahoo was 28-51 (54.9%) from the field and 14-18 (77.8%) from the line.  Wahoo forced 32 Arlington turnovers, while committing just 15 themselves. Wahoo improves to 16-2, while Arlington drops to 10-6.  Wahoo will next host Columbus Scotus on Tuesday night.

The Warriors were supposed to play at GICC on Saturday, but due to the snow storm, the game has been moved to next Thursday.
