Wahoo 70
Winnebago
66
Winston Cook and Blake Lacey came off the bench to lead Wahoo to a 70 - 66 overtime victory over #2 seeded Winnebago in the Class C1 championship game.
Wahoo trailed both at the end of the first quarter and at half time, and things looked bleakest when the Warriors trailed 41-30 half way through the third period as the Indians netted three consecutive treys. Cook led the comeback with six third quarter points and Dylan Egr scored a three at the end of the quarter to bring Wahoo close at 42 - 45
Wahoo's leading scorer on the season, Brendan Lacey fouled out in the fourth quarter and it was up to his younger brother, Blake, to help bring home the win. With 39 seconds remaining in regulation, Blake made a freethrow to give Wahoo a three point edge, but Winnebago scored a three at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
With 54 seconds remaining in overtime, Blake found Quick for a basket inside to take a 68-66 lead. Winnebago couldn't convert on the subsequent possession and Blake stepped to the line to make two freethrows with 17 seconds remaining for the final score. Lacey commented, ""I was nervous. But I've worked all my life for this moment, and I just stepped up and knocked them down."
Winston Cook led Wahoo scorers with 19 points. Three other Warriors were in double figures: Will Shanahan (10), Cameron Quick (14), and Blake Lacey (12). It was the second night of poor three point shooting for the Warriors, as they made only 4 of 18. Wahoo did win the rebound war, 45 - 38, and were better from the freethrow line, making 14 of 19.
The win gave Wahoo its 11th state title with the last one in 2013.
