Wahoo 69 First Round - Sub-Districts
Raymond Central 45
The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Raymond Central Mustangs 69-45 on Tuesday night in the first round of the Sub-District Tournament.
The Warriors jumped out to an 8-0 behind a Matt Myers trey, a Layne Moore lay up and a Tyler Brunsting 3 point play. A Brunsting trey at the first quarter buzzer put Wahoo up 20-12 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Wahoo led 31-20 with two minutes left. Another Brunsting trey and free throw, and Taylor Murren bucket gave Wahoo a 37-20 lead at halftime.
The Warriors scored the first 6 points of the second half, on a basket from Matt Myers, and two Taylor Murren drives and lay ups, to go up 43-20. The third quarter ended with Wahoo up 54-33.
The Mustangs scored the first 7 points of the fourth quarter to cut the Wahoo lead to 54-40, but a free throw from Jared Moline, a Greg Milliken basket, and a trey from Murren put Wahoo up 60-42. Reserves would finish up the game for a 69-45 victory.
"There were a lot of positives to this win. We played a very solid first half, and we had six different kids knock down a three point shot, which is encouraging. I didn't think that we played with the intensity that we needed to in the second half, and we were not as sharp as I hoped." Said Coach Kevin Scheef.
Taylor Murren led Wahoo with 16 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Jared Moline added 11 points. Tyler Brunsting contributed 10 points. Greg Milliken added 9 points and 5 boards. Matt Myers had 8 points and 6 boards. Layne Moore added 7 points and 6 boards.
Wahoo forced 18 Mustang turnovers while committing just 7.
Wahoo improves to 12-9 and will face Bishop Neumann on Thursday in the Sub-District final at Waverly. Raymond Central ends it's season at 6-13.
