Wahoo 81
Raymond Central 47
The Wahoo Warriors defeated the Raymond Central Mustangs 81-47 on Tuesday night in Capitol Conference action.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 11-2 lead after back to back buckets from Tyler Brunsting. The Mustangs countered right back to tie the game up at 11. From that point on, it would be all Wahoo. The Warriors went on a 25-2 run over the next 6 minutes to take a 36-13 lead midway through the second period. Treys from Matt Myers, Jared Moline, Taylor Murren and Tyler Brunsting keyed the Warrior rally. Wahoo would lead 43-25 at the break.
In the third quarter, Wahoo slowly extended the lead and went to the fourth quarter up 64-36. Reserves would play much of the fourth quarter as Wahoo went on to the 81-47 win.
Taylor Murren led the Warriors with 23 points on 7-14 shooting from the field and 8-10 from the free throw line. Murren also had a game high 7 steals. Matt Myers had a career high 18 points on 4-8 shooting from behind the arc. Myers added 6 boards and 3 steals. Tyler Brunsting added 14 points on 5-8 shooting from the field in one half of work. Brunsting injured his hand while diving out of bounds for a loose ball at the beginning of the third quarter, and needed 8 stitches to repair his hand. Layne Moore added 9 points and 6 assists and Jared Moline added 7 points.
Wahoo forced Raymond Central into 34 turnovers for the game.
"We certainly did not expect the game to go like that. We got on a roll early and had everyone shooting the ball well. Central started in a box and one defensively on Taylor, but Matt, Tyler, Layne, and Jared really shot the ball well. Our defensive pressure was excellent and a big key to the game. When you force someone into 34 turnovers, you are doing a lot of things right defensively. Our defense had really improved over the last four games which is a big reason why we have been successful the last four games." Said Coach Kevin Scheef.
Wahoo won it's fourth straight game to improve to 6-5. Central dropped to 6-6 with the loss. Wahoo will now face Norfolk Catholic at home on Friday, and then host Central in a first round conference tournament game on Monday.
