Sometimes you should be careful of what you wish for, but when Wahoo journeyed to Grand Island for its season finale, that was not the case. Coach Anderson said he “wanted a tough game on the road to end the season because we have two sophomores who we want to get used to this kind of pressure, this type of atmosphere.” In defeating the Crusaders 93 - 77, Coach Anderson got everything he wanted: a victory, a highly competitive atmosphere, and a challenge. To begin with, GICC appeared to be just another Wahoo opponent as Wahoo forced 11 Crusader first quarter turnovers and jumped out to a 26 - 12 lead. But unlike most of Wahoo’s opponents, GICC responded with a solid second quarter, cutting the lead to 11 at half. At one point, the Crusaders closed to within 5, but an unlikely three by Wahoo center, Travis Toline, pushed the Wahoo lead back to 11 at half. The Warriors again jumped out to a good start in the third period and stretched the lead to 59 - 39. GICC made one more run, cutting the lead to 11 at 59 - 48. But Wahoo prevailed in the fourth period and claimed the victory. Wahoo’s big three, Mike Hancock (27), Greg Hain (26) and Toline (20) led the team in scoring.
