Wahoo welcomed the Ashland Blue Jays to town for their first Trailblazer Conference game of the season on Thursday night and came away with a 54-42 win. Ashland, preseason ranked #2, brought a 4-0 record into the contest. The Warriors boosted their record to 3-2.

Wahoo had the advantage the entire game, getting off to a good start with an initial 10-2 run capped by a Kaden Christen three halfway through the first quarter. After a couple of Blue Jay baskets, the Warriors went on a 10-0 run that extended into the second quarter when Eli Shada scored on a put back to give Wahoo a 20-6 lead. An Ashland drive to the basket stopped the Warrior onslaught and with 3:40 left in the period, Ashland had closed the gap to 23-14. Cody Hesser then scored six points and Wahoo closed out the half with a 31 – 16 lead.

The Blue Jays threatened Wahoo’s lead in the third period. Following an initial three-pointer by Dylan Simons Ashland netted three consecutive three-pointers and went on a 15-2 run that cut Wahoo’s lead to 36-32 with 2:00 remaining in the quarter. Wahoo righted the ship, scoring the final six points to build the lead back up to 42-32. Wahoo put the game away midway through the final period when Cody Hesser turned two steals into layups and put Wahoo on top 51-37.

The Warriors held the Blue Jays to only 39% shooting and their lowest score of the season. Simons led the team in scoring with 17, while Cody Hesser also reached double figures with 13.
