1/18/2025 vs. DC West ... NONCONFERENCE / home / REGULAR SEASON /
Season Game #: 12 / Current Record: 9 - 3
WAHOO: 22 ... 16 ... 12 ... 10 .... 60
DC West: 11 ... 13 ... 7 ... 20 .... 51
Wahoo played their fourth game in eight days when Douglas County West visited on Saturday. The Warriors won the game 60 – 51, but it wasn’t as close as the final score would indicate. Wahoo sprinted out to an early lead and never looked back. But perhaps fatigue became a factor in the final period. With Wahoo leading 50 – 31 at the start of the fourth period, DC West scored the first seven points to cut the lead to twelve. Then the game became a free throw contest. The Warriors converted 10 / 12 in the period, with Dylan Simons going 7/8. The Falcons were 8/11. Wahoo was outscored 20-10 in the period. A DC West layup with under ten seconds to go produced the final score, a nine-point deficit, the closest the Falcons had been since the opening period.
The initial Wahoo blitz was paced by Cody Hesser who scored Wahoo’s first five points, a three pointer and then a steal and a lay-up. The period was half over before DC West scored its first points and Wahoo had put up sixteen unanswered. The Warrior offense continued to click and the lead was 38 – 24 at half.
Some hints of fatigue show up in the stat line. The Warriors gave up 11 offensive rebounds and committed 16 turnovers. Wahoo didn’t score a field goal in the final period. Coach Bomar commented, “we had a battle with Platteview the night before in which the boys expended a lot of energy. It was a pretty quick turnaround to play one of the top teams in B.”
Hesser paced Wahoo with 22 points, a career high, while Simons scored 20. Simons also pulled down 13 rebounds, the most by a Warrior so far this season.
With the win, Wahoo improved its record to 11 – 3. The four-game stretch had produced three wins and one loss. The loss came to Lincoln Lutheran, the #1 team in Class C1. Two of the wins came against quality Class B opponents. Platteview had only lost to ranked teams and DC West was 11 – 1 and #4 in power points. However, the Falcons were not ranked in either newspaper as all their wins had come against class C1 and C2 opponents.

COACH BOMAR:
I was very proud of our kids for their efforts. Things started off great as we jumped out to a 16-0 run to start the game. We got a little sloppy after that as we turned the ball over 16 times for the game and had to manage some early foul trouble. Cody Hesser had his best offensive performance on the year going 8-9 from the field (3-4 from 3) for 22 points. He was the catalyst for our early run. DC West did a great job of just continuing to hang around with effort. I felt like they beat us to most of the 50/50 balls and created several extra opportunities with offensive rebounds. They ended up getting themselves 13 more shot attempts than us. However we ended up managing out the 4th quarter by running some clock and hitting some free throws. Dylan Simons again filled up the stat sheet with 20 points (11-12 FT), 13 rebounds, 6 blocks, 3 steals, and 1 assist. With this win we put ourselves in the drivers seat to be the top seed in our conference tournament. Seeding will come out Wednesday, so as long as we take care of business on Tuesday versus a scrappy Ralston team, we will be that top seed.
