For their 2024-2025 home season opener, Wahoo hosted Aurora and pulled out a 41 – 39 victory. The Huskies came into the game with a 1-0 record, having defeated preseason Class C1 ranked Adams Central. Wahoo led most of the game, but Aurora made a fourth quarter run that came up just short.

Wahoo led 28 – 20 at the end of the third quarter in a low-scoring affair. But the Huskies opened the fourth period with a 6 – 0 run. Canon Allen scored on a steal and a lay-up; Parker Smith found Booker Scheierman on the block for two, and Ryan Staehr drove the lane and netted another two. At the 4:23 mark Schierman was fouled as the shot clock expired. Scheierman made both free throws and the Huskies pulled to within one at 29-28. The Warriors responded with a seven-point run as Eli Shada drove for two, Dylan Simons netted two free throws and Cody Hesser drained a three. Kaden Christen converted two free throws with 1:24 remaining to give Wahoo a 38-31 lead. But the Huskies weren’t done. Aurora missed two free throws with 1:11 remaining, but retrieved the rebound and Allen scored a three to narrow the Wahoo lead to 38-34. After Wahoo failed to convert at the free throw line, the Huskies’ Parker Smith drove the lane, scored, and was fouled. Parker converted the traditional three-point play and the Wahoo lead was cut to one. With :46 to go Wahoo could not run out the clock. At the :14 second mark, Simons drove the lane, scored, and was fouled. Simons sank the free throw to put Wahoo up 41 - 37. With Wahoo playing a soft defense, Aurora’s Staehr drove the lane and the Warriors allowed the two-point basket as Aurora was out of timeouts.

Wahoo trailed early in the game, down 7-4 at the 4:00 minute mark, but six consecutive points, including a Dylan Simons three gave Wahoo a 10-7 first quarter lead. An inbounds play from Simons to Ethan Raabe gave Wahoo its biggest lead at 21-9 at the 2:32 mark in the second quarter. The Wahoo defense held the Huskies to only one field goal in the second quarter and Wahoo led 23-13 at the half. The Warriors struggled to score in the third period and Aurora cut the lead to 28-20.

Both teams shot poorly on the night, especially from the three-point range. Wahoo converted only 4/18 (22%), but Aurora was even worse at 3/19 (15%). Much as they had in their loss to Bennington, the Warriors lost the free throw battle as Aurora connected on five more free throws. Nine players scored for the Warriors, but none made double figures. Simons and Shada led the scoring with eight each. The win boosted Wahoo’s record to 1-1 while Aurora dropped to 1-1.
