2/21/2025 vs. Malcolm ... CONFERENCE / away / REGULAR SEASON /

Season Game #: 23 / Current Record: 19 - 4

WAHOO: 17 ... 13 ... 18 ... 19 .... 67
Malcolm: 14 ... 13 ... 15 ... 13 .... 55

Wahoo added the Trailblazer Conference regular season title to the tournament championship they took home earlier this year. The Warriors had to go on the road and earn it against a 12 – 8 Malcolm team who Coach Bomar characterized as “playing well coming into this game.” The largest lead in the game came at the end when Wahoo scored the final eight points, six by Dylan Simons, to post a 67-55 win. A mini run of 7 – 2 had put Wahoo up by 11 to start the final period, but Malcolm kept fighting back, closing to within four points at the 3:26 mark.

It was a turnover plagued first half as Wahoo committed eleven errors. That enabled the Clippers to take a 12 – 10 lead with 2:49 to go, but a Jase Kaminski three got the Warriors back on top at quarter’s end, 17 – 14. Again, in the second quarter, Malcolm was able to take a brief lead 25-24 lead, hitting a three-pointer with 2:48 to go. But Wahoo went into half-time with a 30-27 lead after Cody Hesser connected with Eli Shada for two and Dylan Simons nailed a jumper with :07 to go.

Several times during the game, it appeared Malcom might get the upper hand. Late in the third period, in one sequence Malcolm hustled after three offensive rebounds, eventually connecting on a three to pull within three points of the Warriors. But as they did all game, the Warriors quickly responded as Simons drove to the hoop and scored to push the Wahoo lead back to five.

Simons led all scorers with 25, while Shada had a career best 18 points and Hesser was also in double figures with 10. The Warriors completed a 19 – 4 regular season and went 7 – 0 in conference play. It marks the fourth time in the five years of the conference that Wahoo has at least had a share of the regular season title.

COACH BOMAR:

This was our final regular season game.  Our goal was to come out and play a complete game for 32 minutes and go into the post season feeling good how we were playing no matter the outcome.  That did not happen.  Malcolm has finished their season playing well coming into this game, so we knew they were going to pose a challenge.  However, we felt most of our 11 first half turnovers were our doing.  We got pretty careless with our passes and tried to get too much done with a single pass.  We were able to clean that up in the 2nd half and were able to pull away.  Eli Shada did a fantastic job moving without the ball on offense and crashing the offensive boards to create opportunities for himself.  He finished with 18.  Dylan led us in scoring with 25 and was able to get to the rim when we were struggling to score.  We really did a nice job in most facets of the game, however, we have turned the ball over 36 times in the last two games.  We need to get that cleaned up for the post season.  We will play Mount Michael to open subs at DC West on Wednesday.
