The Trailblazer Conference is in its fifth season and Wahoo won its way into a fifth appearance in the conference tournament championship game on Thursday night. The Warriors scored a decisive 98 – 48 victory over Plattsmouth. The Warriors outscored the Blue Devils by double digits in every quarter to post their highest scoring mark of the season. It was the Warriors’ seventh consecutive win. With the starters on the bench after the first two minutes of the final quarter, Landon Glock scored on a fast break with 3:40 left to put the Wahoo lead at 84-43 and it became the fourth game in a row to end with a running clock.

Wahoo showed they would dominate the game early on. The scoring began with a Jase Kaminski three. Leading 9 – 5 halfway through the first period, Dylan Simons scored, was fouled, and sank the free throw to begin a Wahoo 12 point run, ending with an Eli Shada drive to the basket for two points. Wahoo led 26 – 9 at the end of one.

The Warriors got off to another fast start in the second period. After a Plattsmouth three pointer, Wahoo ran off the next nine points, including a well-executed baseline out-of-bounds play from Cody Hesser to Simons. The Blue Devils did show signs of rallying with two consecutive three-pointers cutting the lead to 37-23 at the 3:00 minute mark. But Kaminski responded with a three, Ethan Raabe dished to Shada inside for a basket and free throw, and Kip Brigham converted a fast break layup to give Wahoo its biggest lead to that point, 45 – 23.

A Simons conventional three-point play, followed by a steal and assist to Hesser started the Warriors out in the third period and the rout was on. Kaden Christen came off the bench to score a pair of three’s (three for the game) and the Wahoo lead climbed to thirty, 69 – 39.

With the starters on the bench most of the final period, Wahoo still managed to increase the lead. Landon Glock scored six points in the quarter and reserve Quincy Gigstad posted five points. Griffen Hancock’s three gave Wahoo its second fifty-point win of the season (the other being over Waverly by 55).

Wahoo’s season record reached 13 – 3 while Plattsmouth dropped to 8 – 9. Since losing to Lincoln Lutheran, Wahoo has averaged 76 points and won by an average 37 points. Simons led Wahoo’s scoring with 18 while Jase Kaminski put up a career high 16. They were joined in double figures by Shada (11), and Glock (10). Shada also pulled down 8 rebounds.

COACH BOMAR:

Our guys came out of the gates tonight with great defensive energy and really caused problems for the Blue Devils.  We knew coming in, they were a good shooting team.  We wanted to make sure no one got into a rhythm.  We did a great job of leaning into what defines us with defensive intensity and running the floor.  We also shot the ball well, which is in large part due to our ball movement.  Right now we are moving the ball as well as we have all season which lead to 23 assists.  Everyone that stepped not the floor contributed to this effort.  We have now earned the opportunity to complete for the Conference title against Ashland on Saturday and we are looking forward to that challenge.
