Wahoo qualified for the district finals with a 56 – 32 win over Douglas County West. The Falcons played Wahoo to within nine points back in January, but this time a third quarter scoring explosion gave Wahoo a dominating win. An intentional foul called on DC West aided an 8 – 0 run at the start of the period. Halfway through the quarter, a Cody Hesser steal led to a Dylan Simons putback that was then followed by back-to-back three’s by Kaden Christen. Hesser then scored on a putback and Wahoo suddenly had a 38 – 16 lead. DC West tried to mount a challenge in the fourth quarter, but two treys by Will Bergsten wasn’t enough as Eli Shada put up seven points and Wahoo cruised to the victory.

The Warriors’ defense contributed significantly to the win as the home team Falcons were held to just 13 first half points. Wahoo scored off of steals, recording a season best 19 for the game, led by Simons’ 8. Coach Bomar noted, “we were extremely disciplined on the defensive end.” Simons led the Warriors in scoring with 15 and Hesser joined him in double figures with 11.

The win put Wahoo in the #3 position in power points with a 21 – 4 record and the Warriors will host a district final game. Wahoo could make its twelfth trip to the state tournament in the last fourteen years. DC West will also host a district final with a 21 – 4 record and the #4 position in power points.

COACH BOMAR:

I’m super excited for our kids on our effort tonight.  Our offense was a little sluggish in the first half, but we were extremely disciplined on the defensive end holding DC West to 13.  They really clogged the lane on us and we started just settling for jumpers over the top.  We were able to put together I huge run in the 3rd quarter by forcing them to 13 turnovers in the quarter.  We switched to our 1-3-1 and that gave us some opportunities for some run outs.  Our run was sparked with a Kaden Christen corner 3-pointer.  That kind of took the lid off the rim.  Ultimately it was our defense that was consistent throughout the game and gave us our opportunities.  I haven’t heard yet who our District Final opponent will be or a day for that game.  We are excited for our opportunities ahead of us.
