Wahoo claimed the Wahoo Holiday Tournament championship with a 75 – 48 win over Mount Michael Benedictine. The Warriors led the whole game primarily due to a dominating three-point performance. Wahoo connected on 9 of 20 three pointers (45%), 8 in the first half, while Mount Michael only hit 2 of 9 (22%). Wahoo forced 20 Knight turnovers. Coach Bomar credited the Warrior defense: “I think overall defense has been the catalyst for us to extend leads in the second half.”

The Wahoo three-point barrage began in the first quarter as Dylan Simons netted two and Cody Hesser and Kaden Christen each added one. Mount Michael pulled within two with less than a minute to go, but Simons scored five of his ten first quarter points to close out the quarter and Wahoo led 20 – 13.

In the second period Christen got two more threes and Kip Brigham and Landon Glock each contributed one. While Wahoo was scoring threes, Mount Michael was getting its points in the paint – 20 of its 23 first half points. Trading two’s for three’s gave Wahoo a 41 – 23 lead at intermission.

The three-point shooting cooled off in the second half, but Wahoo was able to increase its lead to 58-35 at the end of period three, going 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. The Warriors cruised to victory in the final period, emptying the bench.

COACH BOMAR:

I’m very proud of the effort we gave over the two nights of the holiday tournament.  It was nice to play well heading into a 9 day break.  Against Mount Michael we shot the ball really well early which forced them to half to fight from behind the whole game.  Oldenhoeft (16 points) presents a very unique challenge, we just don’t see too many true post players anymore and I thought as a team, but more specifically Eli Shada did a nice job keeping him in check and limiting his damage on the glass. Dylan had another outstanding game for us scoring.  His last 3 games have been 17, 25, and 27 and he is shooting with incredible efficiency.  Overall, all 9 guys in our rotation have really accepted and produced in their role.  Now the key will be to come off the long layoff and continue what we built on over the tournament weekend.
