Wahoo vs Lincoln Standing Bear

The Warriors visited Lincoln to play Lincoln Standing Bear and suffered their worst offensive production of the season, losing to the Grizzlies, 36 – 39. Both teams shot poorly. Standing Bear was only able to convert 14 of 43 shots (33%) but Wahoo was even worse at 10 of 41 (24%). The Grizzlies weren’t very good from the three point line, connecting on only 3 of 19 (16%), but the Warriors were only 1 of 10 (10%). Landon Glock scored a three on Wahoo’s opening possession and that would be the Warriors’ only trey. Coach T.J. O’Connor reflected on the loss: “I thought we were tired and just did not play with a lot of juice.”

The game came down to the final two minutes. Glock converted 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game at 35 with 2:08 to go. On the next possession, the Grizzlies got an offensive rebound and had two chances to score, but a Parker Fellers jump shot came up short. Wahoo couldn’t take advantage and Standing Bear got the ball when the possession arrow pointed their way on a tie-up. Feller connected on a jump shot with :33 to go to make it a two point Grizzly lead. Glock was fouled with :23 to go and made 1 of 2 to narrow the lead to one. Kip Brigham nearly stole the ball on the next possession but was called for a foul. Standing Bear’s Sawyer Osborne scored his only point of the game, hitting 1 of 2 free throws giving the Grizzlies the lead at 38-36. With :07 to go Kaminski drove to the basket, but the ball was stolen. The Warriors immediately fouled. Standing Bear’s Paul Hart sank 1 of 2. Eli Shada's three-point attempt in the final moments narrowly missed, as the ball rimmed out.

In the low scoring affair, the biggest lead for either team was six points. Wahoo was trailing 21-23 with 5:52 to go in the third quarter when the Warriors went on an eight point run. Eli Shada started it off with a basket on an assist from Cody Hesser. That was followed by two Brigham scores, one on an assist from Kaminski and one on a fast break from Glock. Kaminski then converted two free throws to give the Warriors a 29-23 lead. Hesser converted 1 of 2 free throws when he was fouled at the buzzer and Wahoo led 30 – 25 at the end of three.

Wahoo only scored 6 points in the final stanza, four of those coming on free throws. The Warriors went 3:17 without scoring to start the quarter. The Grizzlies netted 14 fourth quarter points, including 8 from Feller.

Feller led all scorers with 13 points. Glock (12) and Hesser (11) were in double figures for Wahoo. For the first time this season Wahoo was outrebounded as Standing Bear took down 36 caroms compared to Wahoo’s 31. Hesser reached double figures in rebounds for the second time this season grabbing 10.

The Class B Grizzlies got their second win of the season (2-3) while Wahoo’s record dropped to 3-2.
