Wahoo vs Platteview

The Wahoo Warriors secured a hard-fought victory against their Trailblazer Conference rival, Platteview, thanks to clutch free throw shooting in the final moments of the game. In a contest that remained close throughout, the Warriors prevailed with a 60–54 win, marking a significant achievement as Platteview entered the matchup ranked #10 in Class B by the Omaha World-Herald. In the final minute Cody Hesser went 4 of 4, Jase Kaminski 2 of 2, and Kip Brigham 1 of 2 from the stripe to secure the Wahoo victory.
Platteview’s Will Osborne opened the game with a three-pointer, giving the Trojans their only lead and his only points of the night. Throughout the first half, whenever it seemed Wahoo might pull away, Platteview responded to narrow the margin. Wahoo took a nine-point advantage when Eli Shada scored off an assist from Jase Kaminski with 1:05 left in the first quarter.

The second quarter began with a three-pointer from Landon Glock, extending Wahoo’s lead to 25–14, their largest of the game. Coach T.J. O’Connor commented, “We had double digit leads that I thought we just didn’t quite put them away.” Platteview answered with an eight-point run, cutting the deficit to 25–22. After Kaminski hit a jump shot, Platteview continued to press, scoring four more points behind Owen Trofholz’s transition basket, pulling within one at 27–26. The teams traded baskets before Kip Brigham assisted Joey Kelly for a three-pointer at the 1:49 mark. Platteview hit three free throws, closing the gap to 32–31. Wahoo played for the last shot, and Kaminski found Shada on a backdoor cut, giving the Warriors a 34–31 halftime lead.

Shada scored the first four points of the second half, seemingly setting Wahoo up for a comfortable lead. However, Platteview’s Trofholz, Quinn Smith, and Sully Vanosdall each connected from beyond the arc, narrowing Wahoo’s lead to 44–41. With 3:06 left in the quarter, Cody Hesser stole the ball, passed to Brigham, who returned it for a Hesser dunk. Vanosdall scored inside for Platteview, but Shada answered with a transition basket from Kaminski, and Wahoo led 48–43 heading into the final period.
Wahoo started the last quarter with two free throws from Hesser and a Brigham layup assisted by Kaminski, restoring the nine-point lead. Platteview responded with a 7–3 run, keeping the pressure on. With 35 seconds remaining, Trofholz scored on a drive, bringing Platteview within one possession at 55–52. Forced to foul, Platteview sent Wahoo to the line, where the Warriors sealed the win with clutch free throw shooting.

The free throw line proved decisive, with Wahoo converting 10 of 12 attempts while Platteview was only 6 of 12. Wahoo also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Platteview 32–23. Shada led Wahoo with 16 points, while Kaminski and Hesser each added 14. Trofholz was the game’s top scorer with 21 points, and Smith and Vanosdall contributed 10 apiece for Platteview.

This victory marked Wahoo’s sixth consecutive win, improving their record to 9–3 overall and 2–1 in Trailblazer Conference play.
